Kirk CPA Professional Corporation is a small, but mighty, online accounting company providing monthly services to entrepreneurs. We’re hard-working and detail-oriented, but laid-back and don’t believe in accounting emergencies. We’re a remote team and believe in setting our own hours while ensuring we get our work done on time.

Who You Are

You are a strong communicator who knows how to actively listen to clients. You understand accountant “speak”, but don’t use jargon with clients. You are confident in your experience and are willing to challenge the status quo when something is incorrect or not working. Your personality is laid-back enough to roll with what comes your way but are energetic when working on projects and tasks. You have a keen eye for efficiencies and streamlining processes. You have high attention to detail but know how to use your time productively.

Accountant

Your New Role:

Your new role with Kirk CPA Professional Corporation as an accountant is permanent, part-time employment. You will work with the CEO and clients to complete year-end reviews of QuickBooks Online files, prepare workpaper files, prepare corporate tax returns, answer client questions, file GST/HST returns, and prepare personal tax returns. You will work directly with our CEO, bookkeeping team, and virtual assistant. We’re growing rapidly and once you are able to build trust with the team and our clients, you will take on more complex responsibilities as the company develops. This could include managing a team, being involved in strategic planning, or other opportunities tailored to what your goals are.

You Will Need:

Essential

  • 3+ years of experience with QuickBooks Online
  • 1+ years of experience with Profile Tax software
  • 3+ years of experience preparing compilation engagements
  • 3+ years of experience preparing personal and corporate taxes
  • Corporate tax filing experience specifically in Alberta and/or Ontario
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Teams
  • Excellent communication and administrative skills
  • Exceptional organization and time management skills

Ideal, but Not Required

  • Karbon experience
  • Dext experience
  • QuickBooks Workpapers experience

Your Day to Day:

  • Review QuickBooks Online files to:
    • Ensure transactions are categorized properly
    • Review GST/HST coding for accuracy
    • Review A/R and A/P for old transactions and unapplied credits
    • Review bank and credit card accounts for accuracy and completeness
    • Other ad-hoc requirements
  • Troubleshoot QuickBooks Online issues for clients and our bookkeeping team
  • Prepare and file t-slips
  • Year-end QuickBooks Online file reviews
  • Preparation of year-end workpapers
  • Preparation of compilation engagement package
  • Prepare corporate taxes using Profile Tax software
  • Prepare personal taxes using Profile Tax software
  • Use Karbon to manage work load and deadlines
  • File GST/HST returns after reviewing the QBO file for accuracy
  • Prepare and post year-end adjusting entries
  • Communicate with clients to request documents and statements

Bookkeeper

Your New Role:

  • 3+ years of experience preparing sales tax returns
  • Experience working directly with solo-preneurs and corporations specifically in Ontario and/or Alberta
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Teams
  • Excellent communication and administrative skills
  • Exceptional organization and time management skills

Ideal, but Not Required

  • Karbon experience
  • Dext experience

Your Day to Day:

  • Review and publish receipts from Dext to QuickBooks Online
  • Analyze and categorize transactions in QuickBooks Online
  • Ensure transactions are posted, reconciled, and adhere to all policies and procedures by mid-month for the previous month
  • Balance bank and credit card accounts by reconciling entries in QuickBooks Online
  • Prepare and post year-end adjusting entries
  • Communicate with clients to request receipts and statements, to explain variances if applicable, and to establish and maintain excellent client relationships
  • File sales tax returns
  • Meet with clients to answer questions and provide guidance
  • Prepare and send monthly reports to clients, including profit & loss statement and balance sheet
  • Diagnose and correct bookkeeping issues
  • Assess processes and streamline where appropriate
  • Use Karbon to manage workload and deadlines
